A Day I’ll Never Forget

Do you ha a favorite aunt or uncle that touched you life in a special way? …… Well …….. I would like to tell you about my Uncle June

When I was a kid he would bring home bananas an ice cream every Friday just like clockwork So needless to say for longest time he was my favorite Uncle. As it turns out though He was and always will be my favorite Uncle. Not because he brought home bananas and ice cream but because he was most loving giving person with exception of my brother Tom that I’ve Ever known. He was the closest thing to a father I had growing up.

He was the guy who snuck The paddle Out of the house and threw it into the field down the street somewhere. πŸ™‚ πŸ‘πŸ‘ πŸ’• . The thing is no one knew what was happening to the paddles my mom would have fit because every time she had a new one made it would just disappear …….

One day I came in from out side and seen him tucking it down the back of his pants He saw me and said let’s go for a ride down the road. πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚. I said ok we walked out of the house and Uncle June told my mom Tangi and I are going for a ride down the road. Mom said ok. So off we go. We must have gone about ten miles before he turned down a dirt road about a mile down that road he stopped wound down the window and threw the paddle out the window. Then he confessed that he was the one doing that and why. The conversation ended with me promising not to tell anyone how the paddles were disappearing. After all he was doing it for us kids. No complaints from me. πŸ™‚

He was the Uncle when your car broke down you can call and he would do his best to be there to fix it for you.

As with everything else though life goes on he moved somewhere up in the mountains where the sassafras grows he said. I grew up got married had children. It’s the natural way of things but we never completely lost touch With each other. One day I got this phone call from my mom that he was in a hospital. He was diagnosed with lung cancer. Yes he smoked cigars. He smoked those Cherry smelling cigars. I loved the way they smelled. Anyway He lived far enough away from me and with me working like I was and talking care of a family I wasn’t able to get up there but one time to see him. I would call him when I had time to see how He was doing. A couple of weeks went by and I heard from the lady that he was living with that he was suffering so bad and screaming at the top of his lungs with the pain he was in. She said they were given him Morphine to help him sleep so he wouldn’t suffer so much. I said a prayer for him asking God not To let Him suffer anymore… Hes such a good man I told My father in heaven. Why him of all people should be suffering like that?

I was in my car pulling out of my driveway getting ready to go see my mom. With tears still in my eyes praying all the way to my moms house. A little time went by and I was there sitting on on the porch swing when mom brought the phone out to me and said Tangi your Uncle June wants to talk to you.

She handed the phone to me and I said Hi Uncle June, He said hi Tangi and said you are heard person to find. I said oh yeah what Did you want to find me for? He said listen Tangi do you see that and Before I can say see what, he said Look up Tangi do you see that mansion and I knew at that point what he was talking about and I said yes Uncle June I can see it. He said one day you and I both will be living in That Mansion. Oh yeah you’re gonna save me a Room in that mansion are ya?

He said absolutely.

I sat there and listen to him talking about how beautiful that mansion was. Then the phone went silent. I said Uncle June? Are you there Uncle June? Then a woman came on and told me that she was his nurse and said I’m sorry but Mr. Brown just passed away.

John 14:2-3. In my father’s house there are many mansions if it were not so I would have told you and if I go prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also.. KJV
